[Road Traffic Test] Traffic System Management (TSM) Trial

    ・Expressways
  • Traffic restrictions were introduced for vehicles traveling from the main route toll points toward the city center.
  • Depending on traffic conditions, the entrance to the expressway was closed.
    ・General roads
  • Traffic restrictions were introduced for vehicles traveling from Ring road No.7 toward the city center.
  • Extensive detours to other routes and reduction of private vehicle use were encouraged.

[Road Traffic and Public Transportation Test] Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Trial

    ・Partner organisations and businesses were encouraged to propose demand management for road and public transport users
  • For example: taking time off work, staggering work schedules, teleworking, avoiding or rerouting at busy times or areas, changing delivery times, etc.

Trial to expand gate opening hours at the Port of Tokyo Container Terminal

 As part of our efforts to manage transportation demand management (TDM) towards the Tokyo 2020 Games, we conducted a trial to extend cargo handling hours (gate opening hours) at the Port of Tokyo Container Terminal during the Golden Week vacation period, Smooth Biz promotion period in summer, and during the year-end and New Year holidays when higher cargo volumes are expected.

Test anticipating the opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Games [Sunday, August 25, 2019]

 The Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee confirmed transport between the Athletes' Village and the New National Stadium, including a fleet of 25 buses, to simulate the transportation of athletes during the Opening Ceremony and confirmed the method of bus transportation around the venue. Traffic restrictions for vehicles were also introduced in conjunction with this test.
